Big BerthaThe Estes Big Bertha is the rocket many hobbyists remember as their first "big rocket." Vern Estes is credited with designing the 24" long, 1.64" diameter rocket with swept-back fins.
The Big Bertha made its debut as "Rocket Plan 13" in the April/May 1963 issue of Estes's "Model Rocket News" newsletter. It was introduced as a kit (K-23) in 1965. The kit sold for $2.00.
