NEFAR's First Launch of 2011Weather has been the nemesis of NEFAR for the past few months. Dry conditions causes the past couple of launches to be cancelled.
The weather continued to cause trouble for us in January. But, it failed to stop us from flying this time.
Wind was the villian this time. It rarely stopped blowing all day. The wind kept many rockets on the ground, but some took to the air.
Chris flew his Odd'l Rockets Break Away. But, first he posed with it for some glamour shots.
The Break Away defied the wind and flew straight.
Chris flew his UP! Cup while John launched an Odd'l Rockets's Birdie.
I spent most of the day prepping my YouBee rocket.
Bracha and I took advantage of the wind to untangle the parachute.
John and Chris helped me carry the YouBee to the launch pads and set it up.
It seemed to take forever ... then I heard, "Roger Smith, Pad 12, going in 3 .. 2 .. 1 ..."
The YouBee ended up draped over a tree, but it didn't take too much effort to free it.
As Chris and I returned to the launch site after retrieving the YouBee, a special flight lifted off.
The G-SLAM roared off an away pad carrying the ashes of NEFAR member, Sam Haynes.
