SA-2SA-2 was an unmanned Apollo test mission. Launched on April 25, 1962, the Saturn 1 carried 109,000 liters (30,000 gallons) of water as a payload. The water was released in the upper atmosphere to study the effect on radio transmission and local weather conditions. The huge ice cloud created by the released water was estimated to be several kilometers in diameter. |
