Shenzhou FiveChina became the third country to create a manned space program with the launch of Shenzhou Five on October 15, 2003.
The rocket carried a single taikonaut, Lt. Col. Yang Liwei. The launch occured at 9 a.m. local time (9 p.m. EDT, October 14) from the launch site in the Gobi Desert. The spacecraft entered orbit 10 minutes after launch. References: |
