STS-41GSTS-41G was the 13th flight of the space shuttle. Launched on October 5, 1984, the crew consisted of Robert L. Crippen (Commander), Jon A. McBride (Pilot), Kathryn D. Sullivan (Mission Specialist), Sally K. Ride (Mission Specialist), David C. Leestma (Mission Specialist), Marc Garneau (Payload Specialist), Paul D. Scully-Power (Payload Specialist).
The orbiter Challenger spent eight days in orbit. The mission was the first flight to include two women, Ride and Sullivan and Sullivan became the first American woman to walk in space. The astronauts deployed the Earth Radiation Budget Satellite. References: |
